After they bloom the seed pods start forming once they are about 2 inches in length ,
they are ready to pick .They can be sauteed in butter or added to stew or stir fry ,
they have a unusual taste .
The American natives gathered huge baskets of this plant and
supplemented their food stocks with this plant.
